Time does fly, we are already in 2018 and almost 4 months since we started our trip towards Americas. We entered Mexico on 1st of December with mix feelings about the issues that we can face and at the same time the beautiful sight of Mexico which was pulling us. Well! after more than a month, it is not what the World outside see this country as 'dangerous, violent, bandits etc'. People are really welcoming and generous, Baja California was beautiful. We took a ferry in La Paz for Mazatlan. We headed towards mountains, roads are maintained and the view is mesmerising. [...]
We have been pretty busy exploring parts of North America and now slowly heading to South West USA. So, last time we were in Cowansville, since then lot has happened. We headed to Quebec City which was lovely and almost made us feel like we are in Europe. May be its the language, place and the food all together. On the way, we had a quick visit to Pierre's cousin where we enjoyed warm welcome and dinner:-) Then we headed to Montreal, Ottawa(capital of Canada), Toronto where I met my cousin sister and her family. We had an excellent time visiting Niagara [...]
Today we went to visit George, whom I've been in touch with since more than 2 months, since he saw my message in a forum mentioning we'd be looking for a camping-car (aka RV). He and his wife are retired since a very long time ago they have been married for 50 years. They had purchased this vehicle 3-4 years ago, planning to go travel to South America until they came across health issues that forced them to revise their plans and buy instead a much larger (37') vehicle that they're gonna move and keep in Mexico where they spend their winters. [...]
Canada, here we are! Trip went smoothly, we discovered Air Transat which is a Montreal based airline, flying Basel to Montreal direct every Wednesday for an unbeatable rate. Their business model ressembles with the intra-European flights : small old planes without screens and limited facilities. Still, we had a very good Indian vegetarian meal, movies in our tablets through the airline's WiFi and friendly attendants speaking "French" 😉 While queueing at the customs, we worried a little, wondering if they could reject us because we only had a one-way ticket, but everything went fast and fine. We got our luggage and started [...]
Today is the day! Our train leaves Bienne at 9h17. We'll fly from Basel at 12h30 and reach Montreal 8h20 later.
We have our highs and lows when it comes to renting our place. We found a family who was ready to go for it and then they were lost (never get excited before the deal is done - Lesson learned). Then we had another couple who would take as an second option, their application to the other flat was accepted(told you - don't get over excited). So we have few in the loop and hopefully something will work out. Other than this, we have progressed a lot in terms of sorting out things to throw, sell or give away. Hmmm we had [...]
We have been pretty occupied checking every small details in the cellar. It takes a lot of energy and time....we really don't know why we never took time to clean up ;-) Well better late than never so yes tons of work to do before we really can say 'we are ready'.....
Yes, last May Prerna and I took a spontaneous decision to go and travel by camping-car across the Americas. Departure to Montreal is now planned on 13th September, and that's where we'll buy our vehicle. It's a big step with lots of preparations and emotions, and soon a new life of adventure will be our daily routine. One of our biggest challenges is to find someone to rent our house. We almost closed a deal, and if it works, it'll mean we have to empty and clean our house before we go; big job! Our itinerary will include Canada, USA, Mexico, all [...]
